We ran across this underground house in Big Bend Park in March 2002. It seems that a Mexican family of 12 lived here for some 20 years. They grew cotton on nearby land, irrigated with water from the Rio Grande river. This was during the late 1800's/early 1900's. At that time, the inhabltants on both sides of the river came and went across the border at will.
